Supporting (mainly) women in our daily lives – family, friends, business, bras, health, community

I’m looking forward to the end of 2009 and the start of a new year. I’m not wishing my life away, but 2009 has been horrible, and 2010 will be better by far.

2009 saw my business with major cash flow problems, which haven’t left yet, but have eased. I had to get rid of a member of staff last January, but have managed, by the skin of my teeth to hold on to the other one – without whom I’m sure – I wouldn’t have been able to carry on trading during the year.

2009 saw my Mum finally lose her 10 year fight with ovarian cancer. Even though it was quite quick in the end, and she had prepared us all for it, it doesn’t make it easier when it finally happens. Everyone was lovely, but I do feel that I’ve only started grieving properly in the last couple of months. Maybe I haven’t allowed myself the time before then with keeping Dad going, doing Dad’s finances for his business, and keeping mine ticking over. continue reading…

As a Mum, small business owner and a person who is always busy with something, it’s been difficult to find a way to exercise, But, I’ve found a form of exercise that is fitting in well with family life, is not costing money I don’t have, and is only letting me down if I don’t go. The benefits I’m getting are numerous, including a smug grin on my face when I’ve been out!

I never saw myself as a runner, or advocating it as a way to exercise without going to the gym, but here I am. A person who enjoys running up to 3 times a week, and suggesting it to others as a way of getting into exercise instead of costly gym sessions. continue reading…

The Queen of Faff

Definition of Faff – “to dither or fuss”, Oxford English Dictionary

My friends and family wouldn’t usually use the word “faffing” to describe me, but here I am a few days late with my blog, just 3 days before Christmas, and it’s the perfect word to describe me and my actions this last week!

I’ve done some of my list from my previous blog – continue reading…

Have a look at Cafe Babe’s blog – she seems to have it all under control! http://cafebebe.co.uk/blog/number-100/. Karin’s also got some prizes to be won to all those that share their own resolutions.

My resolution is to be more like her and be organised and focused! Now, how do I do that? continue reading…

I’ve just heard this story and just had to share it with you. It makes so much sense – why haven’t I heard it before?

What do you think?

A little girl ( 6yrs) sat painting in a ceramic painting party, painting African animals. She asked if I thought Santa knew what zebra’s where? I said he used them to fly across Africa so Rudolph and his friends could have a brew and they met Santa at the top of Africa to go round Europe.

She and her friends agreed that this was quite possibly true.

I often get asked by partners buying lingerie for their women what should they do. They want to get it right, and maybe have bought stuff in the past that hasn’t been worn a lot, if at all! They don’t want to waste money, especially when times are tough, but they want to buy you something and treat you both.

Here’s my advice:

  1. Find out the current size of the bra you’re wearing, and look at the shape of it.
  2. Is this bra an old favourite? Has it been worn and worn, so the size on the label is likely to have no relation to your current size? If so, find a bra that hasn’t been worn quite so much that fits OK, and use that one as the guide
  3. When looking at bras he likes, and thinks you will like, can he find a similar shape bra? The shape of the bra is really important as this is what suits your body and breast shape best. continue reading…

Hello world!

Hi there world!

After quite of lot of contemplation, I feel I’ve been called to share lots of what’s in my head with you. I’m obviously new to this, so please bear with me, but also help me along the way – I welcome and value feedback and input to improve what I do and how I do it.

I have quite a few passions and interests, including my family, my bra business, and my work in the community of Chorley, Lancashire. All of this will offer support to other women, mainly, but I’m sure there’ll be men out there who will also gain from the information in my head.

I’m a very sociable person, who loves to help others – some friends say I do this more than looking after myself. So, ask me! I will always say no if something is out of my sphere of reference, or I haven’t got time to research something at that point in time.

I’m expecting to post every week, on a different topic, but all related to what we do in our lives as women. A lot of this will be about my experiences as a Mum of 2 boys, currently at Primary School, and, my current job and passion as a specialist bra fitter.
